The challenge

Lentells Accountants (Lentells) had an ageing infrastructure which would soon begin to impact day-to-day business operations. They required a service provider who fully understood their IT requirements and who had the experience and skill set to know how best to optimise their network and server infrastructure. They needed an IT partner who took a more holistic, consultative approach with their IT solutions, providing full support services, and reducing operational risk with a cost-effective Disaster Recovery solution.

Background

Lentells is a chartered certified accountancy business and has been operating since 1928, with three offices in Somerset and Devon.

Eloquent Technologies (Eloquent) were already successfully managing an element of Lentells’ network infrastructure and had come to know the business well. Eloquent have now been working with Lentells for over five years and possess a broad range of capabilities, including IT consultancy, design, implementation and support services.

Consultative approach

Lentells’ server infrastructure was due for an upgrade as it was nearly five years old. Eloquent was awarded the contract to take over the management supply of all IT infrastructure based on excellent performance over the last three years, but also offered Lentells a variety of options, dedicated hosted exchange email and real time DR. After many detailed discussions, weighing up the pros and cons, Lentells decided on a hybrid cloud solution, with application on premises and also in the cloud. This solution allowed Lentells to dip their toe into cloud services but also keep some core applications in a traditional environment that best suited the business.

Lentells also wanted a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy as they knew that they cannot afford downtime in a fast-paced accountancy environment. The challenge has always been the cost of a full DR solution; with intelligent design, Eloquent were able to provide a full off site DR solution within budget.

 

Multiple projects seamlessly delivered

Eloquent ensured that the network infrastructure upgrade and add-on solutions were installed seamlessly and efficiently, over an eighteen-month period. Some issues were encountered with the application but Eloquent worked with multiple vendors and managed to resolve difficult and complex problems.

After much discussion, and many diagrams, Lentells decided on VMware virtualisation with Veeam backup and Zerto replication. The solution means that on-premise information is replicated in real time to a geographically diverse data centre, hosted by Eloquent. In addition, critical servers are backed up at lunchtime every day by a second server in London which offers immediate and total replication.

Lentells manage their own first line support and Eloquent are on hand 24/7 to provide all the additional support, using their own in-house engineers.

Future plans

Lentells will be upgrading their internet connectivity in the near future. They already have leased lines and fibre connections in two out of three offices, and are looking to continually improve their IT operations, which will in turn improve efficiency across the business.
